For the first three years or so of college, I was a Spanish Education major, and was going to be a Spanish teacher. But an internship my next to last semester went poorly and my professors and I agreed that teaching just wasn't the right profession for me. So with one semester to go, I dropped the education, and have now just graduated with a B.A. in Spanish. I'm taking a year off from school now, working at a bank. Since then I've been investigating my options, and what has really started to interest me is the nonprofit/development field. I feel like I could still use my Spanish, plus I've always been fascinated by history/culture/foreign countries,etc, and I've always wanted a career in which I help other people. My problem now is that I'd like to get a master's degree at a nearby university (not the one I got my B.A. at) but I'm not entirely sure what to get it in. I'm leaning towards Spanish- the courseload there looks like it would involve really interesting and useful classes about culture and translation, not just literature and linguistics which I think are nice but very impractical. On the other hand, what I want to do kind of borders on me being interested in a master's in political science or sociology...the only problem is I've never taken a sociology class in my life, and only took two political science classes that last semester as electives (International Relations and Latin American Politics). Sorry this is so long but you can see how it did take a bit of explaining. Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions as to what I might do? I'm open to getting online certificates in political science/sociology too, but haven't had much luck finding any. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!


I have a BA in political science and would like to obtain a masters degree online from Liberty University. I chose to work towards a MA Leadership. Is this a wise choice? I don't plan to use my political science degree as I cant find campaign work, I currently work as a coordinator for a nonprofit organization.

All my life, the one dream that I have strived for is to gain admittance into Harvard University. Currently I am a sophomore in high school and in need of some extreme guidance as to if this fantasy has any chance of becoming a reality. I attend a very well known and rigorous public [technically private school] and work harder than anyone else that I know. Last year went pretty well except for one thing that has been eating me alive. I GOT A B for the first time in my lifea�� an 89% to be exact in alg2. Is there any way to fix thisa�� I know that it may seem insane but this to me is an ink stain on my transcript???? Can I fix it without retaking the class?

I don't want work with nonprofits or as a paralegal anymore. What career am I best suited for with my current education and work experience? And, how do I pursue a career in the industry you recommend?

I'm interested in government/politics, journalism, lobbying, higher education, research, advertising, and music. I'd like a job with growth potential in an large organization with good management infrastructure (no more small companies or operations).

I'm considering a career change to nursing. I'm 29, have a degree in General Studies and a Masters degree in Human Services Administration (nonprofit admin). I've done a lot of research and think I would be wonderful with my attention to detail, passion to make a positive difference in peoples lives, and work ethic and hours. I'm not married and do not have any children so switching gears to persue an ASN and the hours that come along with the profession would not be a problem.
However, in school, I never really excelled in basic science courses (probably because I was goofing off and didn't study) and really don't have much of a science background at all. I'm a little worried that I don't have the aptitude in that area to make it but when I look at the ciricculum of many nursing programs it seems that most courses are geared towards patient care.

Does anyone have any advice for me as I consider whether or not this would be a good career change for me? Thanks for anything you can share.


I'm a late bloomer, 29 year old single woman with boyfriend of 4 years who's trying to make life decisions while hearing her biological tick clicking. I have a bachelors in social science, a masters in nonprofit administration and an unstable work history. My first job was the best but they needed someone with experience, I knew it, and I basically blew it. I loved my second job at a nonprofit but our executive director sexually harassed 2 young females, was removed, and all went to hell and 6 of us resigned. That experience plus many others there turned me away from nonprofit and I enrolled in an MBA program. A national nonprofit recruited me about 2 months ago and I took the job out of love for the mission. It lasted just shy of a month because that organization was more disorganized and unethical than any I have seen before. That experience has made me question whether or not I will be able to handle the unethical nature of so many organizations that seem to be out there, have to find a way to look the other way, or do a complete 180 and go for either teaching or nursing which are both popular careers in my city. I could see myself doing pretty any much anything right now that is stable and will enable me a little bit of work time before I get married to my boyfriend and start a family. Anyone out there care to help an obviously stressed, 29 turning 30 in a few months female?


What can one do with a phd in social work?
I am currently pursuing an MSW & PhD in Social Work. I decided on this combo degree to increase my chances of obtaining a faculty position in Social Work. (mind you this is my third master's, I have one in P. Science and the other one Public Administration) Meanwhile, I had to take 7 courses that I have had before. I was not allowed to sub any of these courses . I have been extremelly disappointed. It feels that I have waisted two years of my life w/o learning much. MSW macro is similar to MPA. Instead I could have worked, gotten in relationship and made money. Instead I have spent ab. 20 hours/ wk in field placement working for free (despite my past 6 years of senior level positions in gov and nonprofit) and all been doing is lit reviews. A prof did not even put my name in paper though I produced 34 pgs lit review. So should I quit the PhD (am in 1st yr & have 1 more yr. of courses but am not sure I want to bec. a professor any longer?) What

just wanted to clarify that MSW macro is not really clinical. it's more administratino, policy, community organizing and research, therefore I could not do clinical practice :((( I wanted to do clinical initially, but I was not allowed. I was told that since I have been a MACRO person all my life, I should stick with this to make transiton to "research" easier. Anyhow, it seems to me that in school, student's will is not so highly regarded. :(
