Hiya :)
I'm a teenager, and I absolutely love photography. LOVE it. It's one of the main things that make me tick. (however, I do also find passion in Writing, Biology/Wildlife and Art too)
I am keen on the idea of trying to become a Wildlife biologist /Filmmaker/ Photographer when I am older, perhaps along with a little Journalism in there too. It's really my biggest dream!
However, I have been told numerous times of the threats, risks and problems that many photographers face - that its tough to get noticed; the payroll is rubbish; it is expensive to travel on your own back and purchase your own equipment when starting off, and so on so forth.
I would like to know from you guys (that probably know more than me!) how this line of work is, and if I REALLY put my heart and mind to achieving my goals - will it be worth it and do you think I can TRULY make it ? or after having a profession so long ..after a while..will it stagnate and become boring?
I would love if you could also check out my gallery to see if my work has any potential or not :

Thank you SO Much I would wholeheartedly appreciate everything you supply me with. THANKS!!!
I am 14 years old and I am from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I am a Freshman and Lincoln High. I LOVE photography and I take pictures of almost anything. Mostly of nature though. My friends and teachers really enjoy my photographs and I want to somehow become known. But how do I achieve my goal?
My 2 friends and I are all writing books, and want to know who's is best! Below is the first paragraph of each. give maybe a quick review of each if you want, and vote!!!

I'm 28 and already have a BFA in Graphic Design. I just have recently not been liking it anymore and have always loved photography and kinda always say if I could go back to school it be for photo, but everything truely happens for a reason so here i am. I have looked at schools like hallmark and brooks institute and parson etc.... but Im not sure I have enough funds to go back to school, or if I even should? What should I do, How do I go about building my portfolio so I can get more photo jobs and learn more? UGGH im so confused.
hiya :)
I'm a teenager, and I am very, VERY passionate about photography. I am very keen on the idea of becoming a wildlife photographer / filmmaker / biologist etc. along with some journalism perhaps.
Anyway, over time I have been experimenting with photography over a range of different subjects - not all wildlife.
Please see my DeviantArt profile - and please comment on what you like, how it appears, and how I can perhaps improve.

I am a totally amateur photographer, though I do love high quality images! Have been using a Canon A series digital camera satisfactorily, but now I want to upgrade. Question is, should I buy a high-end point and shoot like the new Canon G11 (retails for around $500) or should I just spend $100-200 more and get one of the starter Canon digital SLRs like Rebel XSi EF-S that comes with 18-55mm lens as a kit? I am willing to tinker around and become more of a photographer....Expert opinions please!
I've always wanted to have my own site with my photography. I am in the amateur stages of being a photographer but still working on becoming better. Might minor it too. Anyway, is it best to wait until i'm really really good-probably after college (2yrs left ) to start one or can i start one with my amateur looking images? Will i be able to get ads on there for profit? Thanks!!!
Also, is it overdone?
I'm currently thinking about becoming a photographer and think i could use this to relax models during the photo shoot
So, I'm 14 and I want to be a wedding photographer. But I feel as though I should get a college education in like a all over college. (That's confusing) Like a extension of high school, where I don't really have a major. Then after that go for becoming a wedding photographer (Or at the same time) I just feel as though I shouldn't be a wedding photographer with only a high school brain. What kind of college is that? (Like having all the subjects, just like high school except harder of course.)
Since it's been argued that the term is thrown around so casually, what in your eyes makes a photographer?
The casual snapshooter who cares little for becoming more than that? The amateur who is learning and wants to become more advanced? The semi-pro who makes some money but not enough to be considered a professional? Or would you consider just the pros to be photographer?
And for those who see me in this section regularly, what would you classify me as? I know, I know. Lame to ask, but I'm curious of your opinions.
I'll let people know my opinion once I get a few answers.
@ Chris: Any chance you can be serious instead of always making some snide remark at me? Good grief.
Hi im studying photography at Drexel University in hopes to become a well established fashion photographer. I have 2 questions for you guys.
1)Do I have a chance breaking into the world of fashion photography? I am one of the best in my class and I live and breathe photography and fashion.
2)Would it be a good Idea to take some fashion courses or is that a waste of my time?
thanks,
Matt
I want to become a photographer. Is the Art Institute a good school for that?
I have been using the camera for 6 months or so now and I have stumbled upon some really good shots on purpose and some accidentally. Friends of mine have been in film classes and given me pointers but I would like to become a little more consistent at getting a good shot. I would like to start taking portrait shots inside and outside, stuff like that just an all around better photographer. I would greatly appreciate any tips or some general aperture/shutter speed settings ect.
i love taking pictures and think i would like to become a photographer when i grow up but what kinds of classes would i need to take??? thanks!!
Isabel Allende was born on August 2, 1942, in Lima, Peru. Her parents, TomA?s and Francisca Allende divorced when she was only three. After the divorce Isabel traveled with her mother to Santiago, Chile, where she was raised in her grandparents' home. Allende graduated from a private high school at the age of sixteen. Three years later, in 1962, she married her first husband, Miguel FrAas, an engineer. Allende also went to work for the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization in Santiago, where she was a secretary for several years. Later she became a journalist, editor, and advice columnist for Paula magazine. In addition she worked as a television interviewer and newscaster.
When her uncle, Chilean president Salvador Allende , was assassinated in 1973 as part of a military takeover of the government, Isabel Allende's life changed greatly. At first she did not think that the new government would last, but later she realized that it was too dangerous to stay in Chile. So her husband, and their two children fled to Venezuela. Despite the fact she had established a successful career as a journalist in Chile, she had a difficult time finding similar work in Venezuela. During her life in exile Isabel was inspired to write her debut novel, The House of the Spirits , which became a best seller in Spain and West Germany. Based on Isabel's memories of her family and the political change in her native country, the book describes the personal and political conflicts in the lives of several generations of a family in a Latin American country. These events are communicated through the memories of the novel's three main characters: Esteban and Clara, the father and mother of the Trueba family, and Alba, their granddaughter who falls into the hands of torturers during a military takeover. The House of the Spirits earned the Quality Paperback Book Club New Voice Award nomination. The novel was adapted by the Danish writer and director Bille August and was released as a film in the United States in 1994. The House of Spirits was followed by Of Love and Shadows, which concerns the switching at birth of two infant girls. One of the babies grows up to become the focus of a journalist's investigation, and the revelation of the woman's assassination compels the reporter and her photographer to go into exile. The novel received a Los Angeles Times Book Prize nomination. While on a lecture tour in San Jose, California, to promote the publication of Of Love and Shadows in the United States, Allende met William Gordon, a lawyer, who was an admirer of her work . Having been divorced from her first husband for about a year, she married Gordon in 1988 and has lived with him in Marin, California, ever since.
As she became more popular, Allende decided to devote all of her time to writing and quit her job as a school administrator. Her next book, Eva Luna. The novel received positive reviews and was voted One of the Year's Best Books by Library Journal. Allende followed up this novel with The Stories of Eva Lu. The Eva Luna stories were followed by The Infinite Plan. The Infinite Plan received less praise than Allende's previous books. Still, as novelist Jane Smiley pointed out in her Boston Globe review, Not many authors from foreign countries have even attempted writing a novel from the point of view of a native of the new country. Allende's next work, Paula , was a heartbreaking account of the circumstances surrounding the long illness and death of her daughter in 1991. Published in 1999 Daughter of Fortune is the story of Eliza Sommers, a girl who breaks with nineteenth-century Chilean tradition to follow her lover to California. In September 1996 Allende was honored at the Hispanic Heritage Awards for her contributions to the Hispanic American community. In 1998 she received the Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize for excellence in the arts. Another novel, Portrait in Sepia, was published in 2001.

I'm a beginner photographer and I'm thinking of investing in a digital SLR camera, but I'm not looking into buying a beginner camera because I don't want to have to upgrade and buy a new one once I start figuring out what I'm doing, get the hang of it, and become more advanced. I've heard that the D40 is good for beginners, but haven't heard anything about it concerning advanced photographers.
Do you think that the D40 fits my needs?
I'm really considering majoring in journalism. I've wanted to have some sort of job in the field as long as I can remember. But people always tell me how bad the outlook is - newspapers are dying out; online blogs and news outlets have replaced them, and there aren't many jobs available when it comes to working in television or radio.
But SOMEBODY has to make the stories we hear on radio or see on TV today. It seems like they would need tons of people to find and write stories (even if it is online) and people such as producers for news programs, reporters, weathercasters, photographers, interviewers, announcers or commentators. Broadcast media is widely popular, and is becoming more popular every day.
So should I seriously forget getting a degree in journalism? Should I opt for a good communications program instead for it's wider range of job opportunities?
Give me your advice, but don't simply tell me: "Don't do it."
Okay basically I have myself in a very confusing situation.
I've recently started shooting night life and rather going direct to the venue I'm currently working alongside the promoters, who are quite young and the same age as me (19). The venue make a lot of money and he promoters are lucky to make half by the end of the night.
I've only shot at this venue once and got talking to a guy who worked there who warned me that they're not very happy chaps. The venue don't currently have an "official" photographer but as they have a facebook page and a website I was wondering how could I get in working alongside the promoters?
They have a band coming up this week for halloween, a band i've already shot I'd like to e-mail them, but if I do then I'd be doing it for free and prpreferably want to make a bit of A?A?A? rather than accepting free entry and a few drinks (no one can live on fresh air). How do I tell them that they have to pay for the images if they decide to use them? its a confusing situation for me and I don't want to ruin this. My aim really is to become an official photographer for the venue rather than the promoters because the amount I would get paid by the promoters is just not worth it plus I don't find it fair due to the amount they receive at the end of the night.
The venue is unaware that I shot for a previous event..as the ororganizersnd the venue owners are pretty distant. I need to be pretty quick before they find someone else too!
Please help me 10 Points to the best answer as always, Thank You! x

I'm an amateur photographer who's becoming more interested in learning how to use studio lighting. I've been looking around and found some seemingly good packages from Cowboy Studio. It's extremely affordable and in the pictures looks like pretty solid stuff, i was wondering if anyone's had past experience with this brand and if they would recommend it or may have some words of caution.
Thanks

Any advice would be appreciated. :)
Im a studio art major hopefully to find a future career as a photographer/photo teacher. Lately I feel like I'm not good enough, I'll never get a job, etc. I actually would really like to become a photo teacher. Soon i will be transferring schools and Im torn between staying a studio art major/photography, or just switching it to art education. How can I keep my hopes high??
Hi. I've recently become the owner of a 1940 KW Super. It belonged to my stepfather, but unlike him I am not an avid photographer. It seems like these camera's are fairly rare, and I cannot find any information on them. I'm wondering approximately how much one would be worth?
I'm trying to get into University of Pacific Pharmaceutical School or UC San Francisco but I'm worried that I won't be able to because of my current GPA which is 3.4 not very good. What would the average requirements be to become a pharmacist?
As for becoming a Photographer, I want to be a fashion/ editorial photographer. I currently reside in Southern Cal but might transfer High schools to OSCHA but they don't have a course focused on Photography.
