How many years in college does it take?

First off, I'm a high school Freshman aspiring dream to attend BU or Columbia after I graduate. There are two things I want to be when I grow up: an aerospace engineer and an archaeologist. I asked my sister who's in college and she said it's not possible to triple major. I'm planning to double-major Archaeology and Aerospace Engineer or either major in A.E. and minor in archaeology. The problem, according to my sister, is that I HAVE to take Physics (General) along with Aerospace Engineer to fully become educated in the subject and forget about archeology.

What should I do? I want to learn about both, but don't know how to mix them both up so I can learn each separately. I'm in a special (not that kind) high school right now where special programs are taught. I'm in an Engineering Design class which is pretty cool. I told my sister I don't have to take Physics along with A.E. when I go to college because I'm already learning Engineering in high school, plus going to take Physics when I'm a Junior. What do you all think? How would I stack between what's beneficial and what's not?

I need to know exactly what degrees to get, For instance where do i start? What associates degree do i go for, then i need to know what bachelors and so on and so forth. I also need to know how far in school do i need to go, Do i need just a bachelors or do i need a masters or doctoral? Thanks!

I was at a restaurant with some family and the conversation turned to
the famous Mayan prophecy about "the end of the cycle in 2012". I don't place any weight on any prophecy that is not of the bible so I mentioned the fact that the Mayan glyphs are nearly illegible (as I wrote in my answer to the yahoo question "what happened to the Mayans")...

*************************************

" Unlike the prophecies of Hebrew scripture which Providence
preserved even from greater antiquity, the work
of the Mayan priests though written in stone has been defaced and is mostly illegible."

*************************
I further mentioned that it was only through the work of archaeologists
that the Mayan glyphs were made legible whereas the the work of
the Hebrew scribes was preserved first by inspired hands of men and
then through the copper and papyrus scrolls that confirmed what providence preserved through mens efforts.
My brother became furious and screamed insults at me across the table.
Should I be more lighthearted about these dubious prophecies and use them to make light table talk? Was I wrong to dismiss the Mayan prophecy at the table?

I have two true passions; dance and history. I have always imagined myself becoming an anthropologist and archaeologist when I grow up. I'm just worried that by the time I do, we'll have found so much there will be nothing else to find. Do you think an archaeologist is a smart job after the next 15 years.

What do I need to do if I want to become an archaeologist? What do I need to get in college to become one? What do I need to do in order to be an archaeologist?

Although it seems unbelievable, there once was a race of little people. The first skeleton of homo floresiensis was found in september 2003 on an island near Bali. Archaeologist working in the area excavated the skeleton from a limestone cave. They believe that this species of human is a version of homo erectus, who arrived on the island and became small to adapt to its conditions.

depending on today's hot jobs. What should i choose as my main focus from now on?
P:S:i have just started my a'levels.that's with physics,maths,chemistry,economics,geo,accounts,business studies,classics,maybe a computer subject

it is argued that the ban was initially rational, since pig meat in hot climates can become rank and develop the worms of trichinosis. this objection is absurd when applied to the actual conditions. first trichinosis is found in all climates, and in fact, occurs more in colder climates than hot. second, ancient jewish settlements in the land of Canaan can easily be distinguished by archaeologists by the absence of pig bones, as opposed to the presence of other such bones in the middens of other communities.

as a matter of fact, pigs are one of our fairly close cousins. we share a great deal of our dna, and there have been plenty of transplants of skin, heart valves, and kidneys from pigs to humans.

pigs when left to themselves and with plenty of space are not filthy, disgusting creatures but the contrary is true.

where did this irrational fear of the pig come from? does it have to do with the fact that we do share so much dna with pigs that it could be considered cannibalistic? i have read in many places that human meat does not taste too different from pork. did those who started the phobia/prohibition believe that it was a slippery slope from eating pork to eating a human?

Saphire-Man: Saphire-man is the main character and hero of the series, he was once an archaeologist, who's name is Axel Jacques. Axel was exploring in a cave in India and stumbles upon a beautiful, glowing, saphire crystal, Axel touches it and causes him to gain super powers.
Saphire-Man's Powers: Saphire-Man has super strength, crystal vision, which can turn things into crystal, is able to shoot shards out of his fist, has saphire bast, which can allow Saphire-Man to shoot energy blasts from his hands, Saphire-Man also has the crystal board which is able to hover and fly when Saphire-Man wants to go places he uses his crystal board.

The Crow: The Crow is the first villian to fight Saphire-Man. The Crow was once a princible named Mrs. Cropins. Mrs. Cropins was a very cold princible and never smiled. They way Mrs. Cropins is turned into the Crow is one day she was about to feed her pet Crow some toxic bird seeds but she slipped and the seeds fell into her throat and she a much bigger nose and her arms turned into large black wings.

The Crow's Powers: The only power the Crow has is the abuility to fly but her large crow like nose is very powerful weapon in battle.

The Hyena: The Hyena is the second villian to fight Saphire-Man. The Hyena was once just an average killer named Axel Novelson. Axel fell in love with a singer named Banda, which drove Axel dangerously insane and tried to kill Banda but failed bye Saphire-Man which caused him to fall out of a window and landed in a big van of hyenas. A rare super breed Hyena bit him which turned him into a super were-hyena. The Hyena is known to laugh a lot like the Joker.
The Hyena's Powers: The Hyena can make things explode with his super sonic laugh, has super sharp claws which can shred things to peices kind of like Freddy Krueger, the Hydena can also jump really high and has really good aguility.

Dr. Kilowatt: Dr. Kilowatt is the third villian to fight Saphire-Man, Dr. Kilowatt was just a scientist, named Dr. Kitzo, Dr. Kitzo was already a little crazy before he became Dr. Kilowatt. Dr. Kitzo was fasinated bye electricity but one day he built a machine and Dr. Kitzo thought the only thing could make it work was bye lighting. Lighting hit the machine but Dr. Kitzo was touching the machine so 50,000 bolts went through Dr. Kitzo's body and changed him into Dr. Kilowatt. Dr. Kilowatt's top head was shaped like a mongoloid's head and was dressed up like a cliche mad scientist.
Dr. Kilowatt's Powers: Dr. Kilowatt's powers is simply to blasted out electricity out of his brain.

These are just a couple villians i still have a lot of villians that i made that i of coarse didn't mention but these are just the first three. I am only 13 years old and i'm going to make comics when i grow up.

Ever since I was a little girl I always wanted to have an astronomer for a friend so that he/she could teach me about the secretes of the
Universe... and you know keep me updated and all LOL. But the funny thing is that I never even came across one, ever :/

Well I don't think there should be so many of them around lolol Does anyone actually know one? Is anyone actually one themselves? LOL

Thank you.

p.s. I've managed to become an archaeologist, but I still want an astronomer friend lol ... and who says one can't have it all :P

Can any one tell me the following:

- An affordable college where I can get a Ph.D. in Archeology
- What classes I will need to take to become a professor to teach this
- What do I need to major in?
- Do I need a teaching degree?

Please and thank you :D
With the combination of teaching, would I be able to excavate sites during the summer?

Okay, when I'm older I plan on becoming an archaeologist but i can't find a lot of things on the internet about archaeology and different colleges and stuff. What's it like to be out at an archaeological dig? Do you make any profit from something when you find it? What colleges can you go to to learn about archaeology?

I plan on becoming an archaeologist so I would like a decent school with an Anthropology department with an emphasis on archeology. What are some good school in or near Ohio?

I'm in a dilemma here. I have to choose one of them. I'm doing a BA degree at the moment. I want to become an Archaeologist but the Archaeo course at my university in Estonia is not that interesting, the lectures are rather boring compared to the Anthro ones and there's only theory, no practice (but I want more fieldwork). So, I think I might specialize in Anthro for now and then do my Master's degree in Archaeology somewhere abroad, like in the UK or the US instead since I think it might be a lot more interesting, with a higher level and probably more fieldwork too.

The only question is would it be possible for me to do my MA in Archaeo with an Anthro BA degree? And do you think it's a good idea, will Anthropology give me a good start?

Hello! I was going to college for archeology, but I lost my financial aid and cannot afford to go back on my own. I am still learning the hieroglyphs on my own using the book "How to Read Egyptian Hieroglyphs: A Step-by-Step Guide to Teach Yourself" by Mark Collier and Bill Manley. This book is amazing, but Im wanting to know what road I need to really take to pursue my life-long dream of becoming an archaeologist. I just need some advice and/or guidance. Someone help please!
Well I live in Idaho, US. I think it would be amazing to do like, cartouche translations, or even working on new digsites. My all time dream is to actually work with the pyramids of Giza. But, I have always had a fascination with learning new languages and stuff, so even just translating would be amazing for me.

From the thirteenth to the sixteenth century, the Inca empire flourished in the Andes Mountains. It maintained an eleven-thousand-mile network of stone-paved roads.
1) Which of the following, if true, provides the strongest support for an archaeologistas conclusion that a particular stretch of ancient stone-paved road was part of the Inca road system?
A) When the Inca conquered the area, they took some of the existing roads into their road system and then greatly extended the road system.
B) The particular stretch of road is oriented north and south, the orientation that many of the major roads in the Inca system had because of the north-south orientation of the Andes chain.
C) Shards of eleventh-century pottery from a distant part of what later became the Inca empire were found next to the stretch of road.
D) The stretch of road is the only ancient road between two places that were listed consecutively in a sixteenth-century list of way stations on the Inca road system.

Im really into learning about history and id love to travel and learn about other cutures. I however, dont know where to apply for a job and im not sure where to go to college for this degree. Im also curious as to where archaeologists work and how often they travel? anybody know the answer to any of my questions?
sorry spelled should wrong

I want to be an archaeologist, but the problem is that I don't want to be a professor in between digs. I would much rather work in a museum, is there any advise on how to become an archaeologist and what kind of job in a museum is right for me?

I'm 13 and I would very much like to become an archaeologist and zoologist, I want to travel places for my work but I've been looking on the internet and it seems different. Also who in the world pays you? Who do you work for, a company or corporation? Please help!

Hi

I've always wanted to be a model, I like the sound of glamour modelling. Ever since I was a little girl I love posing, playing around with pictures, and being in the lime light.

I am 14 by the way. Unfortunately I don't think I have the looks to become a model. I am 5ft 6 which is tall for my age though I am an unhealthy 11.13 st. I believe I have the personality and confidence to be a model, just not the exact looks. I have been on hundreds of diets and yo-yo diet which basically means one month I'm 11st 8 the next I'm 12st 4. I want to live a happy healthy life style as well. I don't smoke though I drink alcohol on occasions such as going out with friends or birthdays.

I am a very creative girly type of girl. I have other jobs I'd like to take up such as being an archaeologist or a fashion designer, though I've always wanted to be a model. I am a UK size 14 though before I'd consider myself to have the looks for a glamour model I'd want to be a size 8-10 and my dream size is UK 6.

Usually on the average day I'd eat :
Weetabix or cereals for breakfast
A snack such as a few bags of cheap chocolate buttons
A ham sandwich for lunch followed by a cookie or something
Then a big bag of chocolate after school
A dinner such as noodles, cheese on toast, lasagne
And perhaps a bowl of cereals just before bed

I'd like to be 9st. My main attraction is my hair, it's really thick, big, and usually straightened ( other wise naturally curly). I have a bit of a big nose and apparently have really nice blue eyes. I have big boobs, some people say they can look a bit fake.

I want to lose weight, and take more care in my looks, and succeed to be a glamour model when I'm older, I have medium brown hair though usually dye it dark brown or highlight it blonde.

I am very sporty though have prosterior cruciate ligements in both legs which when playing up can hold me from doing sport for 4-7 weeks. I usually go swimming everyday. I used to be really fat when I was about 11 weighing top at 14.5 st, which I lost by just growing up and at one point bullies were saying nasty things which made mme stop eating and lose a bit of weight, I know no that was unhealthy. But I want to show those people wrong!

PLEASE HELP ME OR GIVE ME ANY ADVICE, MUCH APRECIATED!

Xxx.

Unfortunately I am too stupid to know how to put a picture with this :L x

Happened at Jamestown?
class: 2004 Pre-Collegiate Program, Session I
Settling in a strategic military location along the James River, colonists in Jamestown faced many problems that hindered prosperity in the colony. Among these were Indian raids, starvation, laziness, and disease. Many historians argue that hunger was the largest problem, but based upon historical, archaeological, and ecological evidence, disease formed an even greater problem for the colonists.
At the archaeological dig in Jamestown, there was evidence of death from disease. The archaeologists found skeletons with buttons, which indicate these people were buried with their clothes. This often happened when people were inflicted with an illness because since their clothes were contaminated. People wouldn't want to get near them for fear of catching the disease.
In contrast, archaeologists have found horse bones that show evidence of butcher marks. This could indicate the colonists used them for food, but doesn't necessarily point to starvation. The colonists in Jamestown always had a constant fear of starvation. Therefore, theoretically the horse could have died from some natural cause and out of fear of starvation the colonists butchered it. The archaeological evidence indicates that disease was a greater problem and is supported the most concretely so far.
The only other thing that did not point towards disease was the water well. Archaeologists at Jamestown say that it gives clean water, yet the colonists would not have drank from it immediately. At first they drank from shallow wells in the fort, and right from the river. When the colonists drank right from the James River there was no source of filtration at all! Garbage and sewage collected in the river and harbored the deadly diseases.
In Jamestown, disease caused the most deaths for colonists. George Percy wrote in his journal that colonists became ill with such afflictions as "Bloudie Flixes", "Burning Fevers", and "Swellings". Diseases carried by water could cause symptoms such as these. The "Bloudie Flixes" are associated with dysentery, the "Burning Fevers" with Typhoid fever, and the "Swelling" with salt intoxication or dysentery. Typhoid fever and dysentery are easily spread and could cause the epidemics which the colonists in Jamestown faced. Both are for the most part fatal diseases and survivors do not gain an immunity. This would explain why the epidemics continued year after year and everyone was at risk. If most of the people in a colony are dying, it's pretty difficult to be productive and prosperous.
Drinking from the James became especially problematic in late summer when the water level decreased. This in turn meant there was less water to flush down waste and contaminants. Thus, the water became more stagnant and the diseases flourished. This ecological study matches the pattern of disease epidemics at Jamestown. From historical records the epidemics were present and dangerous at late summer, correctly matching the time ecological evidence points too.
Since disease was a common occurrence that plagued Jamestown, it is no wonder that the colonists suffered many problems. Historical, archaeological, and ecological evidence all point towards disease as a major problem in colonial America; the greatest problem the colonists faced. Disease was ever-present, reoccurring and constantly decimating Jamestown.

thanks in advance
I would like to become a historical archaeologist and i am in my senior year of high school and was wodnering where i should go to college and or what to do to become one.

I know this sounds really really crazy. . . i really love traveling and history but i dont have the time or the money to go to college. . . can anyone think of something exact or close???

other than lazy and dumb (i think those are the most common), which aren't true a lot of the time. i have two friends who smoke daily and one has been in college for 6 years to become a field archaeologist. the other has been in college for 3 years to become a plastic engineer (which you have to be like really smart in math for).

but anyways other than lazy and dumb what are the biggest stereo types for your average marijuana smoker and do you consider them to be accurate?

I'm only 16 and I'm thinking about careers I would like to have in the future and archeology really interests me. I've thought about becoming an archaeologist but I have my ears stretched to 1/2". I don't plan on going much bigger or getting any tattoos on my face or neck or anything like that, but I really like my gauges and don't want to take them out. I just want to know if I become an archaeologist will I have to take them out? And if I do, what are some other careers that wont require me to take them out?

I am in high school and attend community college. I desire to be a math major but I don't think that will help either of the stuff I want.

What is a good area to major in for either?
What courses to emphasize on?

Hi I need help how do you become an archaeologist.

I'm currently fifteen and choosing all the courses that would be good to be an archaeologist according to careercruising.com.Should I be involved in any particular extra-curricular club/group? I would also want to know what would be the best path to follow in becoming an archaeologist. Would it be better to go to college and get an undergrad (i think it is) degree and then go on field studies or is it better to go to a University for a graduate degree. I live in Toronto and am wondering what would be the best University/college for me to go to. The University of Toronto has an archaeology program, but is it good compared to say Cambridge. I want to go to a recognized respectable archeology program. I would like to be prepared for my future. How much does an average archaeologist make? According to careercruising.com i would have to be a very successful archaeologist and would have to write a book to obtain about $100k a year. Is that good? I am also interested in careers such as a medical doctor, coroner, or psychologist.(How is being a psychologist like? it seems interesting but i dont think i could be very patient) I am trying to learn German and Latin with Rosetta Stone, or should i have a real teacher? I play Viola in school, should i also get out of school practice so i will look more appealing on my school applications? I have 85-95 average in school. I'm sorry if this question is too long to read, but as i said before i would like to set my career.

I want to become an Archaeologist, but I do not not what to major in. I am planing to get a Masters and a PHD.I have a 3.75 GPA. So should i just get my BA in Archeology and specialize when I get my Masters and PHD? What do you think I should do, and what should I major in?

Any help is great.

I am interested in become an Archaeologist , I would like to major in ancient history or Roman/Greek history. My current GPA is 3.75, and I had a 100 in history all through high school. They do not have to be in the States, and any help will be great THANKS.

I've been looking at a couple of schools and they don't have archaeology as a major only anthropology. Then i heard that archaeology is like a sub major under anthropology. I wanted to make this sure and know if this applies to most colleges n' universities???

Plsss help!!

I need a list of college classes that you need to become an archaeologist.

I want to become an Archaeologist and i would like to go in Montana because i am from there and would like to work there so do any of the Colleges or Universities offer it?

the other day i was talking with some friends on how my goal in life basically is to explore the egyptian pyramids and the sphinx, and i realized if i kept up in school i could do it, i just need to work towards the profession of archaeology. what i wanted to know though is what kind of things do i need to go to school for, and what kind of college do i need to go to, what things do i need to study etc...

i just want to know because i feel like i need to start this asap, i feel like i'm running out of time here

other than being a british archaeologist (i can speak like harry potter). i so wanna have gymnastics skills and cool dodge moves.

I want to immigrate to Sydney, Australia, from America. I heard you have to have a "Special Talent" would becoming a Tennis player be considered a "Special Talent" if not would a teacher or an archaeologist be considered a "Special Talent"? please help i really want to move to Australia!

I recently saw a clairvoyant and she told me that i have a very old soul, and she told me about two of my past lives. First she told me that i was in an ancient tribe and I was a woman warrior. Then she told me that i was also alive in the early 1900s and I had a fiance and he died in WW1, and she told me that he would come back to me in this life. I found this intriguing because I want to become an archaeologist and mainly focus on military history, so I thought if i explored my past lives i could find some more answers to help me in this life. Is there any tips you can give me?

I want to become a archeologist. What are some good career options? I am really interested in Greece, Egypt and England especially.

... We spend too much time together, all alone working, cos we have all of these projects together. We're always assigned projects together, cos it seems like we're a hell of a teem lol and I was supposed to go on field work with him tomorrow, but all of a sudden I was given a day off tomorrow and assigned to this place really far away from him for the rest of the week :/ while he was assigned to the opposite side of the country lol :/

... and that made me realize that I would miss him.... a shoker! lol And I actually thought of calling him right now and tell him that even tho I'm not gonna get paid for this job tomorrow that I'm still going lol Cos we have so much fun together, and now it feels like I'm a child from whom someone has stolen their ice cream. :/

Let me emphasize that nothing physical has ever happened between us, I just feel like having fun with him on field tomorrow, and feel like such a child about it!

...this girl friend of mine told me that I shouldn't do it tho, cos then I would be giving away that I like him and that could make him become too cocky! But I'm not even sure whether I really want him or not still, I mean after all we are working together, and I have a golden rule about that. I really just want to have fun you know... really justwant to be around him. It's been ages since I hadn't had this much fun with someone at work, and I like him! :)

Well and since I've had some female advice already I could use some male advice now. What do you say guys, should I stay or should I go?

Please guys, do get back to me, cos this is really urgent!!!!

Thank you a thousand times in advance.

oh in case you could wonder about what we do, we're both archaeologists. So as you can imagine, too much time in the middle of the field together :/ It does get tough sometimes... the tension I mean. lol :P
Maybe I should just txt him telling him how much it's actually bothering me, the fact that I'm no longer going on field work with him tomorrow... and then see what he says, or if he's actually gonna say anything about it. God! lol
Ok so I'm txting him at 11 pm that should tell him something.
